Intonare

Privacy Policy

Effective date: August 20, 2026

Short version: Intonare does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data. Your microphone is used only for pitch detection, locally on your device, and is never recorded or sent anywhere. The app offers one optional purchase, processed through Google Play and RevenueCat, which involves only anonymous purchase data and no personal information. Nothing is ever shared with third parties for advertising.

Who We Are

Intonare is a music education app developed by LieutenantDan76, an independent developer based in the United States. The app is distributed for Android via the Google Play Store, for iOS via Apple's TestFlight, and as a Progressive Web App (PWA). The PWA is served from GitHub Pages, whose hosting provider keeps standard server access logs (including IP addresses) that the developer cannot read; see GitHub's privacy statement.

Data We Do Not Collect

Intonare does not collect, process, or transmit any of the following:

Microphone Access

The app requests access to your device's microphone solely to enable its pitch detection and tuner features. Audio from your microphone is:

Microphone access is only active while you are actively using a feature that requires it (such as the tuner or pitch exercises). You can revoke microphone permission at any time through your device's system settings without affecting other features of the app.

Internet Access

Audio instrument samples ship inside the app itself and are loaded from local storage, so playing an instrument requires no internet connection at all. (The sample naming follows the conventions of gleitz's open-source MIDI soundfonts, but the files are bundled rather than fetched.)

Two features do reach the internet, and only when you choose to use them:

Neither request carries any personal data, account, or identifier. As with visiting any website, the service receiving the request can see the IP address it came from; Intonare sends nothing else. If you never open an online quiz category, that request is never made.

An earlier version fetched instrument photographs from Wikipedia for parts of the learning material. That was removed in August 2026, and the app now ships every image it displays.

Local Storage

Intonare stores a small amount of data locally on your device, including your settings preferences, exercise history, and progress statistics. This data:

Backups

The app can write your progress to a backup file. You choose where that file goes; the app never sends it anywhere by itself. If you save it to a cloud folder, an email or a messaging app, it travels wherever you send it, under that service's terms rather than this policy. The file holds settings, progress and statistics. It deliberately excludes your purchase status, so a backup file cannot unlock the app on another device.

Purchases

Intonare offers a single optional one-time purchase that unlocks the app's premium features. This purchase is handled through Google Play's billing system and a service called RevenueCat, which manages your unlock so it can be restored if you reinstall the app or move to a new device.

When you make a purchase, RevenueCat receives an anonymous identifier, your purchase status, and your locale and currency code so the price can be shown correctly. It does not receive your location. It does not receive your name, email address, or payment card details. Payment information is handled entirely by Google Play and is never seen by the developer or by RevenueCat. RevenueCat processes this data solely on the developer's behalf to manage your unlock, and the data is encrypted in transit.

If you never make a purchase, no purchase data is generated or collected. If you have made a purchase and would like the associated purchase data deleted, contact the developer (see Contact below) and it will be removed.

Third-Party Services and Advertising

Intonare does not integrate any third-party analytics SDKs, advertising networks, or tracking frameworks. There are no ads in the app. The only third-party services involved are Google Play's billing system and RevenueCat, used solely to process the optional in-app purchase described under Purchases above. No data is shared with any third party for advertising, profiling, or any commercial purpose whatsoever. Google Play lists purchase history as being collected for "app functionality" and "analytics"; the analytics there means the developer being able to see how many copies sold, and nothing about you or how you use the app.

Aside from processing purchases and the Play update check, the only external network request the app makes is the Music Quiz lookup described under Internet Access above, and only when you use an online quiz category.

Children's Privacy

Intonare does not collect any personal data from any users, including children under 13 (or under 16 in the European Union). The optional purchase described under Purchases involves only anonymous data with no personal information attached. The app is safe for use by learners of all ages. Because no personal data is collected, transmitted, or stored off-device, the app does not knowingly collect personal information from children as defined by the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), the GDPR, or comparable laws.

The microphone is used only for real-time, on-device pitch detection and is never recorded or transmitted (see Microphone Access above). Because no personal data is collected, no special parental consent mechanisms are required or implemented.

Data Security and Retention

Because no personal data is collected or transmitted, there is no server-side database to secure and no retention period to run. Everything the app creates lives in your device's own storage, protected by your device's security, and is deleted when you clear the app's data or uninstall it. The only exception is the anonymous purchase record described under Purchases, which is retained by RevenueCat for as long as your unlock is active so that it can be restored, and is transmitted encrypted.

Do Not Track

Some browsers can send a "Do Not Track" signal. Intonare does not track you across websites or apps, and does not build a profile of your activity, so there is nothing for that signal to switch off. No third party collects personally identifiable information through the app. The app's behaviour is the same whether the signal is sent or not, because it never tracks in the first place.

Your Rights (GDPR / EU Users)

Because Intonare collects no personal data, there is nothing to access, correct, export, or delete on our end. All data associated with your use of the app exists only on your own device and is entirely under your control.

If you have questions or concerns about data handling, you may contact the developer directly (see below).

California Residents (CCPA / CPRA)

If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act gives you rights regarding personal information that a business collects about you. Because Intonare collects no personal information, the following all hold true:

There is therefore nothing to access, delete, correct, or opt out of. You will never be discriminated against for exercising any privacy right, as there is no data to act upon.

Changes to This Policy

If this policy is updated, the revised version will be published at this URL with an updated effective date. Given the nature of the app, meaningful changes to this policy are unlikely unless significant new features are added. Users are not automatically notified of policy updates; we encourage you to check this page periodically if you have concerns.

Governing Law

This policy is governed by the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. This does not remove any mandatory consumer protection rights you hold under the laws of your own country or state of residence.

Contact

Questions about this privacy policy, or any request to delete purchase data, can be emailed to Intonare.dev@gmail.com. You can also reach the developer through the Intonare GitHub repository.
